Couples Therapy

I currently offer couples therapy to my clients seeking to strengthen their relationship, overcome conflict, and to deepen their emotional connection. In order to do so, I utilize an evidence-based treatment approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy.

                                                                 What Is Emotionally Focused Therapy?

Emotionally Focused therapy (EFT) is a type of therapy that is used to improve attachment and create secure bonds within couples.  EFT was originally developed by doctors Sue Johnson and Les Greenburg in the 1980’s  to address emotional disconnection, distress, and insecure attachment for couples, families, and individuals. Currently, there is an extensive body of research on the effectiveness of EFT for couples struggling with challenges in poor communication, conflict, depression, anxiety, trauma, etc.

The EFT approach helps couples by identifying the patterns of negative interaction that they often find themselves stuck in. Next, couples will identify the range of emotions that are present and then learn to express to each other what is truly happening for them in those moments. Couples will learn to share their emotions and inner experiences with each other, show acceptance and compassion, and express their needs to each other.

This process helps couples to establish a safe and secure bond which then enables them to keep their emotional balance, communicate effectively, feel safer and closer to each other, improve problem solving, increase empathy, and grow in emotional availability.
